Carp fishing with new baits and flavours can be really exciting and interesting. Some fishermen love to stick to the same old baits, whereas I prefer to mix it up and try something totally random. One of those baits is banana.

Do carp like bananas? Yes, it is a great bait that works throughout the year. It’s very popular when used in boilie recipes, ground bait or just by using a chunk of banana on the hook.

So, why try banana flavour for carp? It’s one of the most popular fruits in the world and has inspired all different things such as music and food recipes. It has a unique smell that you know as soon as you smell it as it’s instantly recognisable.

Banana As a Hook Bait?

Banana is already quite soggy and that’s before it’s been in the water or before the carp have chewed on it. It will become a real pain to hook the banana onto the hook directly, or even hair rig it. My tip, which I got from Graham at TA angling in the video mentioned above was to use some bread on the hook to help the banana stay on, so that’s what I would do.

You could also buy very green bananas that have yet to ripen. These will be a bit firmer and stay on the hook for longer.

It is not a bait I would want to cast over a long distance to catch carp as I would not have confidence that it has stayed on the hook. I think it’s one that’s best fished down in the margin.

What Banana Flavoured Baits Are Out There?

There is a wide range of products available on the market to increase your catch rate while fishing. We will now take a look at some of the most popular ones.

Banana Additive

You can buy these from many fishing manufacturers such as this one here. They recommend you add it into your homemade boilie recipes which we think is a great idea. However, you could add it to whatever you like such as bread paste, pellets, spod mix or ground bait.

Banana Pop-Ups

These are a really popular flavour of pop-ups and ones that carp fishermen have had great success with.

Banana Ground Bait

Bag Up Baits love making unique flavours and they have produced a banana flavour ground bait mix to add to your normal ground bait. It’s not something I have tried, but give it a go and let me know how you get on.

Banana Glug

Banana glug is great to dip your boilies or pellets in before using them. They will become all sticky and full of banana flavour goodness.
